Call for Partnerships

Community Space

Hello All

I am creating a call for partnership on accessing community space in Manchester

We want feedback from community and voluntary groups that are finding it hard to find affordable accommodation and/or venues from which to operate their activities.

We have held a series of meetings with key organisations (community groups, the council, landlords and the media) across the city in order to put in place a mechanism or strategy whereby community groups can be matched to disused, vacant and blighted buildings.  The aim is to access these disused spaces at an affordable rent in return for refurbishment and general upkeep of the property and payment of utilities etc. This would be over an agreed time period to provide security to the community groups involved. This may be the perfect solution to a problem that may well not be addressed as fluently as possible during this economic downturn.

Currently we want to hear from any groups who have tried to acquire council owned space to rent(especially grade listed dwellings) and what your experience was,  as we are trying to attain a larger understanding of the past issues with city space and regeneration issues.

If you need space for meetings, offices or events, or if you own disused space and would like to benefit from renting to community groups, please get in touch.

Warmest Regards
